Sunday hike
So it was yet another sunny gorgeous day here in Chamonix, so with Pete and Les and their kids we did a very beautiful hike up the Gorge in Servoz - with some pretty dramatic views of some rapids and waterfalls. The kids just enjoyed jostling for lead position, and running up the paths. Definitely no swimming, alas, despite the beautiful pools. There is a dam upstream and it was startling how quickly the stream changed to a gushing river, in only a few minutes.
Anna at the start of the hike.
Me and Anna.
The path was beautifully boardwalked the whole way.
Indie and Zoe in the lead.
Anna and Indie having a brief rest.
The final waterfall. (Can you see Toby and the kids on the bridge at the back?? They're waving.)
Indie enjoyed catching frogs in the pond at our picnic. She's definitely our naturalist...
Froggy on a shoulder.
The other big news this week was that Anna lost yet another tooth - at school this time - and it seems that, yes, the tooth fairy does come to France too, and knew to leave euros, not dollars. It's still a little unclear whether it's the same tooth fairy from home (Buttermoon - Anna has had a brief correspondence with her before, and has some photographic evidence) but it didn't really seem to matter, not too many questions were asked - the tooth was gone, money was left, and all was right with the world.
The gappy smile. (Good thing some teeth are finally starting to come in as well - she was on the verge of gumming her food more than chewing it. No wonder dentists call this the ugly duckling stage...)
