School debrief

So just back from school drop-off, day 2, and things are already looking better. I think Zoe had the roughest time yesterday. She, and the teacher, told me that she had a couple of crying sessions in the schoolyard. According to Zoe, it was because no one wanted to play with her. This is a girl who is used to having lots and lot of friends at daycare (where she had been since the age of 2) so it's come as quite a shock. I know it will get easier for her, but it's hard at the moment (and the lack of French isn't helping). Still, Anna made a new friend in minute 1 it seems (big hugs when they saw each other in the schoolyard this morning), and Indie got to hang with her buddy Oscar in the class and the canteen yesterday. Also, a little girl grabbed her hand as they were lining up to go in this morning, and Indie looked surprised but pleased, so things are looking up.

A rather sad-looking Zoe in the new hammock swing, before school.

Things are looking up.

And I know you must be wondering about the school lunch... the report back was that they all enjoyed their THREE course lunch (salad and baguette, followed by soup, couscous and chicken and veg, followed by apple sauce). I really don't think there is any need for me to cook in the evenings anymore, surely a bowl of cereal should suffice after that kind of banquet everyday.
As for me, I went for my first proper kid-free hike up a mountain yesterday with Leslie. She certainly didn't go easy on this newbie - we basically straight up the mountain for almost two and a half hours (then took the cable car down). It was great, but sadly we were in the clouds for the whole time so didn't really get the normal fabulous views. Still, a couple of those a week and I should start getting fit again.

The mountain I hiked (over 1000 m of ascent - Toby wasn't that impressed, but I was)
