How to Go Sledging - Italian-style

Forget huddling on a freezing cold, icy toboggan hill, watching your children just miss cracking their heads on inconvenient trees by mere millimetres as they go hurtling down, occasionally doling out some rock-hard cookies and a dribble of hot chocolate from a thermos to keep them going in the -25degree wind chill... here's how to go sledging with the family, Italian-style.
Rock up to the hill in the warm sunshine with clear blue skies, rent a couple of sledges and deck chairs, set up said deck chairs at the bottom of the (very gentle) slope where the adults can keep themselves well supplied with cappuccinos from one of the three conveniently placed restaurants clustered around the hill, pull out the newspapers and magazines, and bask in the sunshine in comfort while the kids slowly glide by on their sledges ... if you're Italian, you'll probably want to wear a cashmere sweater, fitted wool trousers and beautiful suede boots, completely inappropriate for snow, but you'll look great while you watch the kids. Then, at the end of your afternoon, convene at the pizzeria in town for huge pizzas and very generously-sized glasses of the local chianti.
Here we are, with Pete and Les and their kids, doing our best to go sledging in Courmayeur, Italian-style.

That's the 'hill' behind Toby - not a lot of effort required

 'Another cappooch? If you insist...'

The sledging is right beside a beautiful x-country piste, and Anna and Toby did fit in a ski as well

 Just happy to be here
